This year, 2022, is the anniversary of the saving of Blue Gum Forest, an anniversary shared with the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the ABC.
Blue Gum Forest inspires:
- conservation action
- art
- poetry and music
- life long love of nature
And for Blue Mountains people, the saving of the Blue Gum Forest is the anniversary that belongs to THEM. The preservation of this unique forest by those bushwalkers 90 years ago is our own momentous event in history. It is one we should never forget. It was the moment of conception of our conservation heritage. It led to the creation of our Blue Mountains National Park and our own World Heritage Area.
We, the residents of this city within a World Heritage Area must celebrate this anniversary. By remembering and reflecting on these pivotal events of the past, we can renew the values we seek to protect. We can recharge our forces for the campaigns of the present and the future.
